Toothpastes are detergents made to loosen the plaque so that it is easier to remove the plaque, not the calculus. Plax is a liquid detergent designed to use as a pre-brushing mouth rinse. It serves the same function as a toothpaste without the ‘foaming’. Many of the current toothpastes have ‘tarter control’, ‘whitening’, ‘antimicrobial agents’ and other things in them designed to get you to buy it. Some people notice a difference when using these product, many do not. Some of the chemicals in the toothpastes can actually cause a type of sloughing of the tissues. The main thing is that if you like a type of toothpaste, use it. If you do not like it, do not get it again.
